Meet some of the ladies of the Breasties! The Breasties is a non profit group that brings together and supports and empowers women affected by breast and reproductive cancers. Here in Niagara, their group get's together a few times a month for what they lovingly refer to as "Titty Tuesday". And lucky me, I got to spend an entire day with these ladies and got to see first hand just how welcoming they are to each other regardless if they know each other or not and how supportive and encouraging they are to one another. And despite some of their heavy health issues, they haven't forgotten their sense of humour or how to have a good time.
One thing we may not always consider about women dealing with these types of health issues is that the emotional trauma they carry goes with them not just through the diagnostic and treatment phase, but also beyond in many different ways. One of those emotional scars can include a sense of loss of their femininity, self image and sexuality. So this photography session was not necessarily meant as an in your face, look at my physical scars kind of thing. It was more intended to embrace both of their physical and emotional scars to reclaim that sense of femininity, confidence and as JT would say...bring their sexy back!!!
Now it should go without saying...this session was planned and took place pre-global pandemic at a time when Covid-19 was barely even on our radar. And, this post was never intended to be about that at all. However, isn't it a great reminder of why and who we're all staying home for?? It's easy to say we stay home for the elderly and immune compromised, but here's some actual faces to go with those vague terms. We're staying home for young, vibrant, beautiful women just like these (amoung many others of course). They are moms, wives, daughters, educators, nurses, creatives, business owners...I could go on and on. These ladies are so worth protecting!! We all are!!
Lastly, I need to share with you a few completely outstanding business ladies who partnered up with me and donated their time and talents to make this day happen! I'll link their instagram accounts too so that you can connect with them as well.
