Let's talk about why telling the story of your brand is so important.
When your brand photos focus on storytelling first, this sparks connections, builds trust and creates relationships.
It might not be what you think of when you start planning your brand photography. Often we think more about what we’re going to wear, which is totally important. And it doesn't necessarily always have to be all boss babe vibes, unless that’s genuinely on brand for you.
The main focus should always be on storytelling. Sharing the human and the story behind the brand not only helps your audience get to know you, but it prompts the appropriate people, those you are trying to connect with, to really buy into your brand. Those who don’t connect with you or your brand story, aren’t meant for you. But those who do, those who really trust and believe in you, they’re the ones that you will best be able to help, and in turn, will best be able to help you.
Storytelling is about finding your people.
But how do you tell a story with one still photo? Well, it doesn't have to be blatantly obvious, it can be more subtle. Really, you want to create an image that can start a conversation.
First, think about the message you're trying to send, the story you're trying to tell with the image and then find ways to subtly curate an image to support that, to start the conversation. This could be in choices like the location you're using, your outfit, lighting. These all set the tone of your image. Then consider props that relate to your story. In Fallons case below she brought along several items that help to tell her story and showcase what she's all about. See if you can spot them in her images. Some are pretty clear and others a little less obvious, like a beautiful bracelet from her mother.
Fallon here, is a true storyteller in every sense. A proud Red River Métis, Speaker, Advocate, Survivor as well as the most kind hearted, sweet yet fierce soul you’ll ever encounter. She has bravely shared her story, her traumas and heartbreak alongside sharing her joy. She has created connections with thousands by speaking her truth and I think anyone could agree, to know Fallon is to love her. She’s got a sparkle to her that just can’t be diminished.
